Esther Levy was born in Havana, Cuba on August 16, 1927. She is the daughter of Abraham and Estrella Barrocas, who came to Cuba from Turkey. Her father used to have a clothing business, which her mother was dedicated to her home. Esther met Saul Levy when she was 18 years old and soon fell in love with him. She said it was a very nice engagement. Since both families came from Turkey, they had so many things in common and the couple had the support of both families. Their relationship progressed until their marriage in Cuba on June 5, 1949. As the political situation in Cuba became very concerning, they finally decided to leave the island. They came to Miami for a short period of time then continued on to New York.
Esther has always been a woman determined and sure of making decisions. She started selling men’s and children’s clothing. She was a career woman and excelled in business. She was doing so well her employer wondered how she was doing it, so he decided to visit her and congratulate her on her outstanding work.
Esther fondly remembers traveling with Saul to Israel, Turkey, Greece, Mexico, and many other countries. Their love was strong and always held them together. “Life was not easy,” Esther recalls, but they always found a way through any problem. Now her memories give her peace and tranquility, which is priceless!
Today, Esther has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom spend time with her. She says she is very blessed to have so much love around her. Here at Imperial Club, she has friends, participates in the daily activities and is very active, as she understands how important activity can be. Esther, we want to celebrate and commend you for your strength in life, and we are so proud to have you as part of our family!
